Usually, our galleries and studios would be full of campers exploring artworks and materials through play and process, slowing down to observe closely, asking and answering questions, and reflecting on their experiences. This year, Summer Art Camp comes to you!

In the spirit and practice of Summer Art Camp, the museum’s teaching artists have created art projects and talks in long and short video formats, recorded from their homes, for the young artists in yours. Campers ages 6 – 12 are invited to look closely, experiment with materials, and reflect deeply through two main themes: Exploring The World and Shaping Stories.

Join us! Learn how to make a sketchbook, build sculptural forms, and paint with a message, all using basic art supplies and household materials.

We miss our youngest visitors and would love to see what you create! Email pictures of your artwork to families@famsf.org or tag us on any social platform with #deyoungsters.

Exploring The World

The de Young’s team of teaching artists has created a variety of art projects in long and short videos for this week’s Summer Art Camp: Exploring the World.

Get curious about art and artists from different cultures and faraway places. Find out how to make your own sketchbook, build an animal mask, watch the Art Talk about artist El Anatsui, and discover the wonders of weaving with paper, ribbon, and whatever else you can think of.
