Privacy policy
The Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco (FAMSF) is committed to protecting and respecting the privacy of our online visitors.
The FAMSF website is operated and maintained by the Corporation of the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, a private 501(c)(3) organization (COFAM). The terms of this privacy policy govern all online interactions with websites run by COFAM and included in the famsf.org domain, and a link to this policy is included in the footer information on every page of this website. Your use of this website constitutes your acceptance of this privacy policy.
Collection of information
COFAM may collect personally identifying data, such as names, addresses, email addresses, IP addresses, etc., in the following ways:
- when voluntarily submitted by website visitors
- when making a purchase in the online FAMSF Museum Stores
- when purchasing a membership, admission, or event tickets (Tixtrack, INC. - Privacy Policy)
- when registering for a virtual event
- when subscribing to a FAMSF e-Newsletter
COFAM also collects information to help us learn about the number of visitors to our site and the types of technology our visitors use. We do not track or record information about individuals. We may compile and report aggregate statistics about our users — such as numbers, traffic patterns, and related site information — but these statistics include no personally identifying information.
Use of information
We may combine data from third party sources including through other companies, exchanging mailing lists, database co-operatives, and referrals.
We use Hotjar in order to better understand our users’ needs and to optimize this service and experience. Hotjar is a technology service that helps us better understand our users’ experience (e.g., how much time they spend on which pages, which links they choose to click, what users do and don’t like, etc.), and this enables us to build and maintain our service with user feedback. Hotjar uses cookies and other technologies to collect data on our users’ behavior and their devices. This includes a device's IP address (processed during your session and stored in a de-identified form), device screen size, device type (unique device identifiers), browser information, geographic location (country only), and the preferred language used to display our website. Hotjar stores this information on our behalf in a pseudonymized user profile. Hotjar is contractually forbidden to sell any of the data collected on our behalf.
For further details, please see the “about Hotjar” section of Hotjar’s support site.
Our site collects hashed identifiers derived from email addresses for the purposes of cross-device tracking for targeted advertising by our advertising partner NextRoll, Inc. You may be served targeted advertising to other devices connected to you (via cross-device tracking). For more information, please see NextRoll’s Privacy Notice. As an organization based in California, our work with NextRoll is compliant with the California Consumer Privacy Act of 2018 (“CCPA”), as detailed in the California Residents section of NextRoll’s Service Privacy Notice.
NextRoll may use non-cookie technologies that may not be impacted by browser settings that block cookies. Your browser may not permit you to block such technologies. For this reason you can use the following third party tools to decline the collection and use of information for the purpose of serving you interest based advertising:
Disclosure of information
COFAM will never share, sell, or trade our email lists. However, COFAM may share other personal information, including name, direct mail address, and details of your membership level through mailing list exchanges with third parties such as Arts and Cultural organizations and co-operative databases. These companies use the shared information for their own purposes including advertising and marketing. If you would like to opt-out of this sharing, please contact us at contact@famsf.org and request to be put on the Do Not Exchange list.
COFAM will never sell your information.
COFAM may share your information if required to do so in accordance with a court order, subpoena, or similar legal order, or state or local law, and in the event such disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, property, and safety of FAMSF, its users, and other third parties.

COFAM may provide links to third party websites and other websites may provide links to the FAMSF website. Third party websites operate according to their own terms of use and privacy policies. COFAM does not monitor or control such third party websites, and therefore you acknowledge and agree that COFAM is not responsible for the availability of such third party sites, and does not endorse and is not responsible or liable for any content, advertising, products, or other materials on or available from such sites. You further acknowledge and agree that FAMSF, including the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, the City and County of San Francisco, the Corporation of the Fine Arts Museums, and the Fine Arts Museums Foundation, will not be responsible or liable, directly or indirectly, for any damage or loss caused or alleged to be caused by or in connection with use of or reliance on any such content, advertising, products, or other materials on or available from such sites.

The techniques our partners employ do not collect personal information such as your name, email address, postal address or telephone number. You may control third-party cookies in your internet browser settings for added privacy.

If you are a parent or legal guardian and think your child under 13 has given us information, you may email us at the address listed at the end of this Privacy Policy.
