People making art in a Vitality Arts class at the de Young

de Young, 2023. Photograph by Andria Lo

This community exhibition highlights artworks created by adults age 55 and over from our 2023 Vitality Arts program. In partnership with local organizations and community centers, we offered seven art classes, each eight weeks long, with the goal of cultivating creativity and social connection. Whether experienced art makers or taking their first art class since childhood, participants learned from professional artists and developed new skills in a variety of media through experimentation and practice. The artworks on view showcase participants’ stories and explorations in self-expression.
