Woman's hat
ca. 1892
Michniewicz-Tuvée
Not on view
This hat was part of the wedding trousseau for San Franciscan Rosalie Meyer upon her marriage to Levi Strauss and Company heir Sigmund Stern in 1892. Typical of women's hat styles of the early 1890s, this hat has a wide brim and low crown. Its rich color and thoughtfully applied ribbon, jet, and feather embellishments emphasize its form and are characteristic of the work of Michniewicz-Tuvée, whose stamp appears on the hat's lining.
