Woman's ensemble: dress (a) and bracelet (b)
ca. 1920
Not on view
Evening dresses by Lady Duff Gordon, known professionally as Lucile, are distinctive for their sheer, vibrantly colored luminous metallic textiles, and asymmetrical trimmings. This dress epitomizes the Lucile aesthetic, with silk and metal foil textiles and a handmade silk flower garland that wraps around the body to offer a sense of movement. The theatrical nature of Lucile’s designs was an outgrowth of her work in costuming for theater and film, which she continued to do throughout her career.
