Wind Sprite
1920
Fascinated with ukiyo-e since her time as a student at the Art Institute of Chicago, Bertha Lum developed skills in woodblock printing using tools and materials she collected in Japan while traveling through the island country on her honeymoon. Although inspired by Japanese techniques and forms, this print has a distinctly Art Nouveau quality to it, characterized by sinuous lines and dynamic movement.
