Water pitcher
The elaborate design of this water pitcher, which combines the Victorian love of surface patterns with the Aesthetic Movement's fondness for multicolored materials rendered in low relief, results in a pictorial—nearly sculptural—object. Although made by a New York City firm and most likely used in an urban home, this pitcher, with its trompe l'oeil plants, butterflies, and woven basket, evokes the beauties and pleasures of rural nature.
