This plum orchard was on the bank of the Sumida River, behind the Tenman Shrine in Kameido. Its most famous tree was known as the Resting Dragon Plum. As its branches grew, they penetrated the earth and new trees sprang up. A fence, visible in the distance, was erected to prevent damage to these saplings from visitors to the site. Through the close cropping and strong diagonal of the branches, Hiroshige directed the eye toward the distant landscape. Dutch artist Vincent van Gogh made a copy in oil, now in the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam.
