In 1959, the avant-garde dancer and choreographer Anna Halprin founded the experimental dance group San Francisco Dancers’ Workshop. Focused on challenging traditional notions of dance, Halprin invited individuals from a variety of artistic disciplines to join her workshops with the goal of incorporating dance with other art forms. Halprin’s daughter Daria, who performed with the group, appears in this photograph, alongside dancer Morris Kelley.
