Sur la scène (On Stage III)
1876-1877
Not on view
Very few of Degas's etchings were published or exhibited during his lifetime. This small etching of ballerinas was printed in a relatively large edition for inclusion in the catalogue of an exhibition in which Degas's work appeared. The artist's viewpoint is located within the orchestra pit, his view partially obscured by the necks of two double basses that rise up at the left.
