suit ensemble: jacket and skirt
Spring/Summer 1999 Haute Couture
Not on view
This John Galliano suit, worn by the prominent San Francisco benefactor Dodie Rosekrans, is cut and draped like an oversized man’s suit but designed to be worn backward. From the front, the wearer’s body is completely covered; from the back, it can be styled with less or more coverage. The suit’s glen plaid weave, with interlocking houndstooth checks of varying sizes, is a textile traditionally used in men’s suiting. A small red ribbon sewn into the jacket’s collar symbolizes Rosekrans’s membership to the French Legion of Honour.
