Solar Hands from the portfolio Sultana's Dream
2018
Not on view
The imagery in Chitra Ganesh’s print portfolio Sultana’s Dream comes from a 1905 feminist text of the same name by Bengali writer and social reformer Rokeya Sakhawat Hossain. Although it was written over one hundred years ago, the fictional tale maintains contemporary relevance, describing a utopia in which women successfully combat impending environmental disaster through various creative, scientific means. Cooking from Light and Solar Hands present an innovative way to capture and deploy concentrated solar heat, while Water Storage depicts a water-gathering balloon used to pull and distribute water from the atmosphere, and To Assemble a Flying Car shows two women building a futuristic flying automobile.
