shoes

From 1953 to 1963, the French designer Roger Vivier partnered with Christian Dior to create the company’s footwear. These shoes, probably intended to match an evening ensemble, were made-to-measure for Jeanne Magnin, a former model and wife of Grover Magnin, president of the San Francisco–based luxury department store I. Magnin & Company. The style, with its low, skinny heel and ultrapointed toe, was a popular trend in the United States during the 1950s and 1960s. For Vivier, shoes were not merely accessories but works of art unto themselves.
