Early in his career as a dealer, Ambroise Vollard commissioned print albums from several up-and-coming artists. Taken as a whole, Pierre Bonnard's 13-print portfolio Some Scenes of Parisian Life, published by Vollard in 1899, represent the artist's definitive statement in the medium of color lithography. Executed over the course of several years, with the technical support of Vollard's master printer Auguste Clot, Bonnard's color lithographs offer a series of views of the neighborhoods he frequented during this extraordinary decade of creativity.
