Presentation in the Temple with the Angel (Small Plate)
1630
Not on view
This is one of three miniature etchings made by Rembrandt in 1630 that each illustrate a scene from the infancy and childhood of Christ. Despite its tiny scale, the print is both complex and unconventional, crowding the main event - the presentation of the infant Christ in the temple at Jerusalem- into the right half of the plate, juxtaposed against a bright exterior where a young girl stares out at a beggar quickly exiting the scene.
