Not on view
This is one of the handful of prints by Rembrandt that were commissioned as book illustrations. It appeared as the frontispiece to a Dutch adaptation of the Greek tragedy Medea published in 1648. The drama unfolds in the nave of an imaginary Dutch church where Jason marries Creusa while his first wife, Medea, plots revenge in the dark foreground. The verses below the image are by Jan Six, the play's author.
