May Belfort
Not on view
The Irish singer May Egan assumed the stage name May Belfort and performed at the Cabaret des Décadents and the Petit Casino during the 1890s. She commissioned this poster in which she posed wearing an oversized baby bonnet and holding a black kitten. Toulouse-Lautrec produced a special edition of this poster for collectors that included his pencil signature in the lower left corner, to the right of his circular monogram, and the emblem of an animal with a ruff around its neck in the upper right corner, accompanied by the edition number inscribed in pencil (in this case, number 25 of the 25 printed).
