Kachin girls at a tribal festival. The meal consists of meat and rice wrapped in huge fronds. The silver ornament worn is a customary display of personal wealth. Kachin tribesmen furnished the most daring scouts of the jungle war against the Japanese in the hills of Northern Burma. Most of Dr. Seagrave's famous Burmese nurses were Kachin girls, trained by the "Burma Surgeon" himself.
