Jan Snellinck, from The Iconography
ca. 1635
Not on view
Jan Snellinck was a jack-of-all-trades in the Flemish art world. A painter, draftsman, and print and tapestry designer, he also worked as an art dealer. Anthony van Dyck etched his portrait in the early 1630s; at left is a proof impression, and at center a published impression. For an edition of The Iconography dating from the mid-1630s, professional engraver Pieter de Jode II was hired to reproduce Van Dyck's etching; his more polished version appears at right.
