Illustrations of All Secret Countries (Ban inkoku no zu)

This rare print depicts fanciful scenes of foreign lands. The artist utilized a Dutch engraving of the Colossus of Rhodes, on of seven wonders of the ancient world as his model for the centrl figure in the composition. Sexual imagery was accepted and common subject matter in Japanese art of the period.
