Gown "Fusee"
Not on view
French designer, Jeanne Lanvin's remarkable career spanned over fifty-six years. In a field dominated by her male counterparts, Lanvin created a lasting impact on the world of fashion by creating designs that epitomized feminine beauty and sophistication. Drawing inspiration from her visits to museums, cathedrals and art galleries, Lanvin was greatly influenced by the Impressionist painters and collected such artists as Edgar Degas, Pierre-Auguste Renoir and Odilon Redon. However, Lanvin is perhaps best known for her innovative use of surface decoration. Her mastery of surface embellishment is shown in details of this elegant evening gown with the two feathered plumes appliquéd in a coral silk chiffon cording adeptly worked to accent the charcoal grey and cream printed motifs of the gown and the cartridge pleating along the edge of the sweetheart neckline and waist.
