Fold / Slice Topo II
Not on view
In
2016, the Achenbach Foundation for the Graphic Arts acquired the archive of the
Paulson Fontaine Press (formerly Paulson Bott Press). Every print the press
produces enters the collection of the Fine Arts Museums in perpetuity. Since
1996, the press has published limited-edition intaglio prints by a group of
diverse and often underrepresented artists. Among them is San Francisco–born
Tauba Auerbach, who explores the limits of perception through abstraction,
color, and pattern. For Fold / Slice Topo
II, Auerbach layered folded and sliced vellum to construct, in multiple
stages, a stencil for the etching plate, printed in brightly colored gradients.
