This jade bowl, imported from India, is transformed into an entirely different kind of drinking vessel through the addition of silver-gilt mounts by a German metalworker. Such hybrid objects flattered the urbane, global tastes of early modern European collectors, whether they were featured on tables during sumptuous feasts or displayed in Kunstkammern: cabinets of wondrous objects collected from across the globe.
