Bords de rivière, ou Les oies (Riverbank, or The Geese), from L'album d'estampes originales de la Galerie Vollard
Not on view
Alfred Sisley was in declining health when Vollard commissioned this lithograph for his 1897 group album. The artist was unable to take an active role in the production of this print. Instead, Sisley provided Vollard with a pastel, and master printer Auguste Clot applied his unrivaled expertise to creating the six separate color stones that, printed together, would recreate this original. Certain critics recognized Vollard's lack of transparency for failing to credit Clot's primary role in producing this print and several others by painters who chose not to engage directly in the practice of lithography.
