Bearded old man with beret
ca. 1640
Not on view
Ferdinand Bol was an apprentice of Rembrandt's from the mid-1630s until 1642. That year, Bol signed his first etchings, at least two of which depict the same dignified man represented in this drawing. Although this sheet was blackened on its verso and indented for transfer to a copper plate, there is no known etching that precisely matches this design.
