This public symposium is organized around a key question: Can technology transform systems of power within culture and its institutions?

Museum directors from around the globe will present alongside leading artists and experts. Topics will center on the role of technology in shaping the power structures defining art and culture, and technology’s role in the future of museums and other cultural institutions. 

Program

  • 10 – 11:30 am: MTR museum directors presentations
  • 11:45 am – 1:15 pm: Lunchtime exploration at the Cantor Arts Center
  • 1:30 – 3 pm: Artist and Stanford faculty presentations 
  • 3 â€“ 3:45 pm: Roundtable discussion

  • Sonia Lawson, director of the Palais de Lomé in Togo
  • Kamini Sawhney, director of the Museum of Art and Photography, Bangalore, India
  • Seb Chan, director and CEO of the Australian Centre for the Moving Image, Melbourne
  • Adam Banks, faculty director of Stanford’s Institute for Diversity in the Arts, professor in the Graduate School of Education
  • Mimi Onuoha, Brooklyn-based Nigerian-American artist creating work about a world made to fit the form of data
  • Glenn Fajardo, Stanford d.school faculty member who explores how we can be creative together when we are far apart and in different cultural contexts

Ticket info

This program will be presented live on the Stanford campus from the Clark Center Auditorium and the Cantor Arts Center and will be livestreamed via webinar.

Free event ticket reservation here. Webinar link will be provided upon registration for those who wish to attend remotely. A free all-day ticket reservation is required to visit the Cantor Arts Center.

Sessions will be recorded for later viewing on our YouTube channel.
