This panel conversation will feature Chris and Ben Ospital of Modern Appealing Clothing (MAC), Sherri McMullen of McMullen, and Delila Hailechristos of ReLove. Laura L. Camerlengo, curator-in-charge of costume and textile arts at the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco and curator of Fashioning San Francisco: A Century of Style, will moderate the panel.

About the speakers

Laura L. Camerlengo is curator-in-charge of costume and textile arts, and curator of the exhibition Fashioning San Francisco: A Century of Style. Since 2010, she has organized, co-organized, and presented numerous costume and textiles exhibitions for the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco and the Philadelphia Museum of Art, with a focus on sharing the stories of women and artists of color. Her publications include The Miser’s Purse (2013), Patrick Kelly: Runway of Love (co-authored by Dilys E. Blum, 2021), and Fashioning San Francisco: A Century of Style (2024), as well as contributions to West 86th: A Journal of Decorative Arts, Design History, and Material Culture, Dress: The Journal of the Costume Society of America, and Objective: Journal of the History of Design and Curatorial Studies.

Ben, Chris, and their mother Jeri Ospital opened Modern Appealing Clothing (MAC) in 1980. The family started carrying small, then unknown clothing collections, from Vivienne Westwood and Anna Sui as well as local talents. Forty-three years later, MAC still sells innovative clothing that includes Comme des Garçons and Dries Van Noten collections as well as up-and-coming designers from near and far.

Delila Hailechristos, an Ethiopian immigrant, established ReLove Vintage and Modern Resale in 2014, a revered institution driving sustainability dialogue. She is an advocate for sustainability, champions access as a core tenet, leads the resale sector with innovative strategies, and has garnered recognition from numerous publications for her pioneering work. Join us in celebrating her unique contributions to reshaping consumer culture and promoting a greener future.

Sherri McMullen stands as a true trailblazer in the realm of fashion, defined by her innovative vision and unwavering commitment to empowerment. In 2007, leveraging her extensive executive buying experience, she founded McMullen, an independent luxury destination nestled within the culturally vibrant city of Oakland, CA. With a profound dedication to advocating for BIPOC designers, Sherri has harnessed her global network of fashion supporters to uplift emerging talents, many of whom have risen to become prominent voices in the industry.
