Join us for a community screening of the documentary Sounds About White: The Untold Story of the DEI Expert and a conversation with Dr. Akilah Cadet about her new book White Supremacy is All Around: Notes from a Black Disabled Woman in a White World. Hailed as the “Olivia Pope of DEI,” Dr. Akilah Cadet will speak about her journey of becoming an unapologetic Black disabled woman navigating a predominantly white world.

About the film

Sounds About White: The Untold Story of the DEI Expert provides an intimate look into the experience of Dr. Akilah Cadet during the global pandemic and “summer of allyship” that followed the murder of George Floyd, when her work as an expert in organizational development, change management, and DEI was suddenly booming. Four years later, DEI is under attack and programs designed for improving the experience of oppressed groups, and all employees, in the workplace and society are disappearing. From managing and celebrating the deluge of interest and new clients, to navigating flagging commitment, racism, disability, and depression, Dr. Cadet’s story is emblematic of the toll it takes to dismantle white supremacy day in and day out.

About the book

In her debut collection of personal essays, White Supremacy Is All Around: Notes from a Black Disabled Woman in a White World, Dr. Akilah Cadet explores the long-term work required to combat structural oppression from her unique vantage point as a Black disabled woman.
