Google Lens entry:A founding member of the "Ten American Painters" group, Twachtman was one of the foremost American Impressionist artists of his era. In this highly personal domestic scene, the artist's wife, Martha, holds her baby up to a mirror. She lovingly watches her child as he studies his reflection, and the viewer wonders if he will react with pleasure or surprise. The painting also features another artwork hanging behind Martha on the right side of the canvas, locating the scene in the artist's home. John Henry Twachtman was one of the foremost American Impressionist painters of his era. A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, Twachtman trained in Munich and Paris. He looked towards Europe throughout his early career, a period when he regularly traveled abroad. Following his final return from Europe in 1886, he remained in the United States, painting American landscapes and domestic scenes in a style influenced both by international artistic developments and a strong American identity.-------------Poem: Noby Sacha Karnofsky, 4-5th grade, Manor Elementary SchoolPaint me with a dark blue and turquoise green dress velvet, NO satin. Paint me with my hair flowing down like a waterfall, NO up high, proud like a rose. Paint my face as clear as crystal, NO blurry out of focus. Paint my cheeks pail, no rosy. Paint me holding a flower, NO a child. Paint the child big. NO small and young. Paint the child a boy, NO a girl. Paint her with a long white gown glistening in the sun. Paint her looking in to a mirror with big blue eyes. Paint her sweet and new like a box of truffles or snow flakes not one exactly alike. Paint her in my arms so loving. Yours, NO, mine.Alternative label (drafted by LP for Google Lens POC, April 2018):A founding member of the "Ten American Painters" group, Twachtman was one of the foremost American Impressionist artists of his era.
