Coronet (orikogbofo)
20th century
Not on view
During British colonial rule (1900-1960), new crown styles emerged that reflected the changing role of the oba and the influences of foreign cultures—seen in crowns modeled after the British coronet, the Bishop's mitre, or the Islamic fez. Referred to as orikogbofo (head cannot suffer loss), these crowns are worn at official events outside the realm of Yoruba ritual ceremonies.
