[1] The commode was likely described by Poirier on May 16, 1773, as “Une superb commode d’ancien laque de la première qualité, le panneau de milieu à magots très richement habillé, les fraises plaquées en Ebbene, les garnitures de bronzes très bien cizelées & doré d’or mat; le marbre de balance statuaire.” See Wildenstein 1962, p. 377. 

[2] Madame du Barry likely purchased this commode from Poirier for 4,246 livres, according to his ledger statement; see Wildenstein 1962, p. 377, Baulez 1991, pp. 75-76, and Schefzyk 2024, cat. no. 12. However, the commode lacks a Versailles or du Barry inventory stamp, so the link remains circumstantial.

William Parr was responsible for transporting furniture sold by Martin-Eloy Lignereux (1751–1809) to England. William Parr also submitted a bill to Lignereux on May 14, 1803, covering works of art transported to London for Sir Fetherstonhaugh, which include this commode, per du Bellaigue 1968, p. 288.
