An Elderly Woman Seated (Rembrandt's Mother)
1631
Rembrandt van Rijn
Not on view
Rembrandt and two other artists in his circle created several portrait likenesses of this elderly woman around 1630. A seventeenth-century inventory suggests that she was Rembrandt's mother, Cornelia ("Neeltgen") Willemsdr. van Zuytbrouck, who died in 1640, when she was about seventy-two.
