Solidarity with AAPI communities

Mar 17, 2021

The Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco condemn acts of violence and discrimination, and the racist rhetoric that fuels them. We stand in solidarity with the Asian American Pacific Islander communities of the Bay Area and across America and other minority groups that are under attack.

Cultural institutions are key in informing, contextualizing, and supporting our nation as it urgently addresses the systemic racism and xenophobia that has plagued us for centuries. We know that our institution is not immune to these structural inequities and have made it the highest priority to become an anti-racist organization.

We take pride in our past and present work in presenting artists of Asian descent. Moving forward, one of our priorities is to highlight and celebrate Asian influence on European art at the Legion of Honor, and on American art at the de Young museum. As we look to upcoming exhibitions that explore the Asian-American experience, including the forthcoming exhibit with local artist Hung Liu, we will do everything we can to provide a safe space for our Bay Area Asian American communities and for our Asian and Asian American visitors.
