SAN FRANCISCO, May 7 – Now in its 41st year, the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco’s beloved floral fundraiser Bouquets to Art will celebrate the centennial of the Legion of Honor’s founding by expanding to the Legion of Honor from the de Young for the first time in its history. Inspired by works in the ancient art, European paintings, and European sculpture galleries of the Legion of Honor, and African art, American art, contemporary art, and Oceanic art galleries at the de Young, the weeklong display of floral installations offers new ways of seeing the permanent collection. From a colossal installation designed by Raul Dueñas in the Legion of Honor’s central Rodin gallery to extravagant nature-inspired fashion designs, the more than 100 botanical creations will transform the museums into a stunning floral extravaganza.
The weeklong event launches on Monday, June 2, with a festive Opening Night reception at the de Young where guests will preview the installations and enjoy culinary delights prepared by McCalls Catering & Events.
Throughout the week, guests are invited to explore the imaginative world of floral design and creation with programs by renowned floral experts. Featured program speakers include Conner Nesbit, winner of HBO’s Full Bloom, who celebrates the beauty of nature’s imperfections while embracing unexpected materials; Christina Yan, a Napa Valley-based floral designer, educator, and content creator known for her playful floristry style and knack for blending colors and textures; and Tyson Lee, a San Francisco based sculptor of beautiful botanicals creating quirky and thought-provoking florals. In addition, visitors can participate in an on-site raffle for luxury goods and experiences.

Abundance

In this program, our trio of speakers—Tyson Lee, Conner Nesbit, and Christina Yan—explore a modern approach to floristry by incorporating a cornucopia of fruits and vegetables to design a live installation on the theme of “Abundance.” They will share techniques for large-scale installation design, a current trend in floral design, and welcome anyone who wants to come watch and learn.
