Bouquets to Art Returns to the de Young Museum

The galleries of the de Young museum burst into bloom during Bouquets to Art, the annual fundraiser that has floral designers recreating and reinterpreting the museum's artwork in flowers.

This is second year the event will happen at the new de Young Museum. Organizers anticipate that more than 150 florists will participate. Funds raised during the event support special exhibitions, new acquisitions, and art education programs.

In addition to the work of the best Bay Area designers, the event showcases national and international talent in special lectures and stage demonstrations. Featured designers include Shane Connolly, London; Reverend William McMillan, London; George Woods, Beverley Hills; and Rene Van Rems, San Diego. Lecture tickets are $35. All programs are in the Koret Auditorium.

Visitors get the first look at the glorious arrangements on the evening of March 19 during the Opening Night Gala. In addition to viewing the arrangements, guests will dine on food prepared by Dan McCall and dance to the music of bandleader Abe Battat. For patrons of the event, this party marks the arrival of spring.

Special lunches at the event are a long-time tradition. This year, they happen in the Piazzoni Murals Room, with seatings at 11:30 am and 1:15 pm Tuesday-Thursday. There is one noon seating on Friday. Tickets are $38 per person or $380 for a table of 10, and they include a salad lunch, wine, coffee, and dessert. Space is limited and reservations are strongly recommended. The de Young Cafe is also open during the event.
