Paulson Bott Press: Celebrating Twenty Years
In the final months of 2015, the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco acquired the archive of Paulson Bott Press, a leader in print publishing with a reputation that attracts distinguished contemporary artists to the Bay Area. This exhibition presents highlights from twenty artists who have worked at the press since it was established in 1996, including Tauba Auerbach, Mary Lee Bendolph, Chris Johanson, Margaret Kilgallen, Martin Puryear, and Gary Simmons.
Master printers and press owners Pam Paulson and Renée Bott, are known for their ingenuity and technical expertise in intaglio processes. Under their guidance, the press pushes the boundaries of traditional printmaking, while working with internationally recognized artists as well as with those outside the mainstream of the art world. To date, they have produced over half of their editions with minority and female artists.
The Paulson Bott Press Archive is held at the Achenbach Foundation for Graphic Arts, and comprises nearly 500 prints by more than forty artists.
