As part of a collaboration with the Fine Arts Museums, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts will present Out of Bounds, three exhibitions and a video installation, in the de Young’s galleries while Impressionists in Winter: Effets de Neige is on display at Yerba Buena Center.

New York artist Fred Wilson acts as both artist and curator with his installation The Greeting Gallery, a glass-walled room containing Wilson’s arrangements of objects from the de Young’s permanent collections. From Southern California’s Museum of Jurassic Technology comes a program of microminiature sculpture by Los Angeles artist Hagop Silandjian. These tiny objects — such as Snow White and the Seven Dwarves standing in the Eye of a Needle — are nearly invisible to the naked eye and must be viewed through special magnifying lenses. The third exhibition, Contemporary Art from Cuba: Satire and Irony on the Utopian Island, is a travelling exhibition of 18 contemporary artists living and working in Cuba today. It explores their use of humor in coping with the everyday realities and challenges of life in Cuba in the 1990s. Out of Bounds also includes a video installation by Russian artist Alexandr Sokholov, titled Spiritual Voices: Diaries of War, that documents life in a Russian army unit on the Afghan border.
