About the artist

Born in Otaru, Hokkaido, Yamashita Kazumi (b. 1959) was known originally for her shôjo (girl’s) manga style works. She has since created works that piercingly explore societal pressures, existential questions, and the intricacies of interpersonal relationships, sibling rivalry, and belief systems, while also drawing manga on the everyday world around her. In 2001, she began the serialization of Wonder Boy, a work inspired by an unpublished Mark Twain novel. In 2020, she completed the series LAND. Currently, she is working on the series Twisted Sisters in Morning magazine.
