Join us for a felting workshop inspired by Fashioning San Francisco: A Century of Style with Simon Ungless and Jody Niederkohr. The workshops are open for ages 13+.
Felting is an ancient craft that consolidates fibers through repetitive action to create fabric. Jody Niederkohr will demonstrate how to create new garments and fabric collages from worn clothing and fabric scraps by using 12 needle mechanical felting techniques. Participants will create their own fabric samples or transform their own existing garments.
Program material requirements: please bring an old, clean wool garment such as a sweater or cardigan, and old garments or fabric swatches (silk, cotton, wool, or rayon). No synthetic fibers please.
When Simon Met Ralph is a creative output project led by Simon Ungless and Jody Niederkohr. All items are created with sustainable consideration focusing on fashion, textiles, accessories, and home products. All items, prints, and treatments are one of a kind and designed to lengthen the lifespan of vintage, discarded, or deadstock products. Past work is included in Sleeping Beauties, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Fashioning San Francisco, the de Young, and Lee Alexander McQueen and Ann Ray, Rendez-vous, Frist Art Museum.
