Join us for the first in our new lecture series, as curator Emily A. Beeny invites you to take “A Closer Look” at our European paintings collection. This talk explores the history of the collection through artwork highlights and the colorful characters — collectors, directors, and curators — who brought them to San Francisco.

About the curator
Emily A. Beeny is Chief Curator of the Legion of Honor and Barbara A. Wolfe Curator in Charge of European Paintings at the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco. Before arriving in San Francisco, she served as Associate Curator of Drawings at the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles and held curatorial appointments at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and the Norton Simon Museum. She is currently developing two original exhibitions: one devoted to the French Baroque artist Simon Vouet and the other to the friendship between Édouard Manet and Berthe Morisot.

Free program. Seating is limited and unassigned. Tickets are distributed in front of Gunn Theater an hour before the program starts, first come, first served. The program ticket does not include exhibition admission. Entry to the permanent collection galleries and the special exhibition Mary Cassatt at Work is free. Exhibition tickets are limited, first come, first served.
