The painted images on Greek terracotta vessels can inspire the onlooker to play a game of finding and weaving a hidden message behind and beyond what is apparent to the eye. This lecture will explore a handful of the ancient Greek vases on view in the Hall of Antiquities in the Legion of Honor to unlock “surprises.”

This program is part of our “A Closer Look” series and is cosponsored by the Ancient Art Council.
