Arts of Indigenous America: Opening Celebration

Join us for a free, daylong community event featuring talks, performances, and demonstrations by contemporary Indigenous artists. This celebration marks the opening of the reimagined Arts of Indigenous America galleries and the special exhibition Rose B. Simpson: LEXICON.
This day is part of a series of free public programs and education initiatives around the Arts of Indigenous America galleries that will unfold over the next three years.

10 am–noon: A Symposium on Curating Native American Art, Koret Auditorium
Speakers: Brian Vallo (Pueblo of Acoma), Pimm Tripp-Allen (Karuk/Yurok), and Alme Allen (Karuk/Yurok). Panel discussion with Joseph Aguilar (San Ildefonso Pueblo), Meeyokeeskow Marrufo (Robinson Rancheria/Eastern Pomo), Hillary C. Olcott, Will Riding In (Pawnee/Santa Ana Pueblo), and Sherrie Smith-Ferri (Dry Creek Pomo/Bodega Miwok)
11 am–3 pm: Family Art Making with Patty Franklin (Scotts Valley Rancheria), Café Terrace
11 am–3 pm: Art Demonstrations with Carson Bates (Northern Sierra Mewuk), the Kibby family, the Pomo Weavers Society, and Russell Sanchez (San Ildefonso Pueblo), Wilsey Court
