Shoulders
2002
Not on view
In 2001 Martin Puryear began making drypoints and etchings at Paulson Press in Berkeley. He returned several times over four years, creating a total of thirteen prints. According to Renee' Bott at Paulson Press, Puryear engaged the printers with stories about his travels, boat and furniture building, and his special interest in falconry. The connection between these experiences and Puryear's artistic work is evident in the imagery found in many of the prints made at the Berkeley press. The gentle curves in Shoulders (2002) suggest a yoke, a cross-section of fence, or a chair back.Â
