Portrait of Loulou Delgouffre
1919
Artwork Viewer
Trained originally as a sculptor, Lhote was known as a painter, skilled draftsman, teacher, and writer on artistic theories and technique (his Theory of Figure Painting was published in 1950). This finely rendered graphite portrait drawing attests to the artist's influences, from Paul Cézanne to the post-Cubist esthetic, and the classical revival commenced by Picasso around 1916.
