Portrait of Laure-Emilie-Felicité David, La Baronne Meunier
1812
The most influential French artist of the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, David was equally gifted as a history painter and as a portraitist. Between 1810 and 1813, he undertook a series of portraits of his family members. This example depicts one of his twin daughters, and it matches in size, format, and unfinished state the portrait of Baronne Pauline Jeanin, his other daughter (1812, Sammlung Oskar Reinhart, Winterthur, Switzerland).
