Our Daughter's Dance with Wisdom
2015
Marcel Dzama explores the boundaries between the real and the subconscious in his work across mediums, from drawing and printmaking to sculpture and theater design. In 2016, Dzama designed the set and costumes for The Most Incredible Thing, a production of the New York City Ballet based on a story by Hans Christian Andersen. Likely inspired by this experience, Dzama made this intaglio print, which he printed with Emily York at Crown Point Press in San Francisco, recalling a ballet scene in which figures wear polka-dot-patterned outfits and become patterns themselves.
