Heinrich Steiner’s new German translations in the early 1530s of classical texts by Cicero and Petrarch included several hundred woodcuts designed by Hans Weiditz II during the late 1510s. Weiditz had been commissioned to produce these remarkably detailed illustrations by another publisher, whose own book projects became delayed and ultimately cancelled by his bankruptcy.Â
