Five from the portfolio Numbers
1968
Not on view
Each print in the portfolio is contained in a white paper folder with a screenprinted poem by Robert Creeley. Creeley's poems were inspired by Indiana's Numbers paintings of 1965. Like the paintings, each of the ten screenprints in the suite contains a number in a circle rendered against a contrasting field of pure, resonating color. Indiana chose the medium of screenprint because "it so related to the nature of my paintings. It was by far the medium that translated my painting ideal."
