Andreas Colyns de Nole, from The Iconography
ca. 1635
Not on view
Anthony van Dyck's The Iconography became a virtual sourcebook for portrait artists of the later seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. He established numerous conventions of pose and setting, such as this formula for the representation of a sculptor in which the subject is shown with one hand resting on a bust of Aristotle.
