<![CDATA[Artist Demonstration at the Legion, “New Expressions in Ways of Impressionism”]]>
A painting demonstration by Ivy Jacobsen and Marius Starkey displays a contrast of styles. Jacobsen will show her processes by bringing a number of her paintings at different stages: the first stage is her bronzing technique with bronzing powder. Next, she uses acrylic and oil paints to achieve her impressions of plant forms. Then she applies thin layers of oil over the top of the shapes to produce distance, atmosphere and fog. The final stage of the demonstration shows how she achieves a rich sunlit atmosphere full of life, air teeming with moisture.

Marius Starkey paints in the tradition of Impressionism. Using Ivy as a model, he will paint a portrait of her on the spot, demonstrating how he color-mixes his oil paint to prepare for the painting, and then drawing on the canvas with a brush. He also shows how to produce a landscape working with different types of brushes and his own unique brushstrokes. He will work between the two paintings, showing how each is developed, and finish them during the demonstration.]]>
